Varsity Football: Conquerors Complete Undefeated Season, Clinch Top Seed

Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors Varsity Football completed an undefeated 10-0 regular season Friday night with a resounding 54-21 win over Quincy’s Munroe Day School. The win featured a first quarter that included 2 blocked punts, a punt returned for a touchdown, a kickoff fumble recovery, 2 touchdown passes, 2 touchdown rushes, 35 Conqueror points, and the return from injury of one of the highest-touted quarterbacks in the country.

The game started with a fumbled kickoff that TCA’s Alijah Haynes recovered on the Munroe 21 yard line. Treyaun Webb took over, and after three rushes punched the ball in from the 1 to give Trinity a very early 7-0 lead.

The Conquerors’ defense then forced a punt that London Smith blocked and Tre Stewart recovered and returned 7 yards to the Munroe 4. Quarterback Colin Hurley, who earlier in the day reclassified as a junior and verbally committed to Louisiana State University, found receiver Kyle Boylston in the end zone for the touchdown that extended the lead to 14-0.

The pass was the first for Hurley after he missed three games due to a wrist injury to his non-throwing hand. He received clearance to play and responded with an 8-for-16 performance good for 159 yards and 3 touchdowns.

The Conquerors were far from finished in the first quarter. After Munroe drove from their own 12 to their own 40 on the ensuing drive, Jaykob Jones returned the punt 65 yards for the touchdown to make the score 21-0. Two more Trinity touchdowns would follow.

Elijah Crocker blocked a punt, and Darnell Rogers ran the ball in on 2nd and Goal from the 10. After another Munroe punt, Hurley connected with a wide-open Boylston on a 60-yard touchdown pass. By the quarter’s end, the Conquerors led 35-0.

Webb (5-yard run), Tyrone Summerall (60-yard reception from Hurley), and Tadarius Washington (3-yard run) all scored again to put up the final numbers.

Munroe got a 66-yard punt return from Mikari Vickers, a 39-yard touchdown pass from Luke Sather to Vickers, and a 54-yard pass from Sather to Ahmari Bordon, but the Conquerors had already put the game out of reach.

With the win, the Conquerors have completed their 8th undefeated regular season in school history and earned the top seed in the 2022 Class 1M, Region 1 playoff bracket. Trinity will host all playoff games through the state semifinal, assuming the Conquerors keep winning.

After a week off on November 11, #1 Trinity will host #4 Orlando Christian Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 18. A win would advance them to the region final against the winner between #2 University Christian and #3 The First Academy (Orlando).

The state semifinal game is scheduled for December 2, and the Class 1M State Championship Game is scheduled for December 8-10 (TBD within that range) at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee.
