Varsity Football: Conquerors Secure Top Seed Despite Losing Streak

Despite a third consecutive loss to end the regular season, the Trinity Christian Academy Conquerors have secured the #1 seed in the Class 2A Region 1 bracket and will have the home-field advantage throughout the region playoffs.

Trinity fell 19-6 to Class 6A Lincoln (Tallahassee) in the season finale. Darnell Rogers scored TCA’s lone touchdown on a 4-yard run that capped a 7-play, 56-yard drive with 7:40 left to play.

Lincoln scored in each of the first 3 quarters. Crete Carter hit a 27-yard field goal with 4:14 left in the first quarter to put Lincoln ahead 3-0. In the second, quarterback Perry Fisher connected with receiver Juvan Pettway for a 26-yard touchdown pass, and Fisher was the receiver who caught backup quarterback Ayden Friar’s 23-yard TD pass with 8:13 left in the third quarter. Lincoln’s defense also recorded a third-quarter safety with a sack in the end zone just 17 seconds before Friar’s touchdown pass. Lincoln’s defense had 6 sacks on the night.

Rogers totaled 93 yards and a score on 14 carries, and Treyaun Webb rushed 14 times for 32 yards to lead the Conquerors. Colin Hurley was 7 for 16 for 94 yards passing for the Conquerors while Fisher amassed 45 yards through the air and 61 yards rushing on 12 carries to lead Lincoln.

Defensively, Caden Morell added 9 more tackles, and he finished the regular season in a first-place tie in Class 2A with North Florida Christian’s J.P Pickles at 112 tackles. That total is also good for a 5-way tie at #34 in all classes of the FHSAA.

Class 2A, Region 1 Playoffs

Heading into the playoffs, the Conquerors are the region’s #1 seed, thanks in part to University Christian’s loss in its season finale. University dropped from the top spot to the #3 seed, and Munroe High School (Quincy, FL) is #2.

See the official FHSAA Class 2A bracket here.

Both Trinity Christian and Munroe will have a first-round bye on Friday, November 12, and they will await the winners of Friday’s games.

Jacksonville’s University Christian will host #6 Rocky Bayou Christian (Niceville) on Friday, and a battle of two Tallahassee teams will feature #4 St. John Paul II and #5 North Florida Christian.

On November 19, Trinity will play the winner of St. John Paul II and North Florida Christian, and Munroe will get the University Christian/Rocky Bayou winner.

The Region 1 final will take place at the higher remaining seed on Friday, November 26.

The four region winners will be seeded according to their RPI to decide match-ups in the state semifinals on December 3. Of those four teams, the #1 seed will host #4, and #2 will host #3. The Class 2A State Championship Game will occur on December 9, 10, or 11 at Gene Cox Stadium in Tallahassee. The exact game date and time is still undetermined at this time.
